Summary V Analysis

Discussion Question Transcript

Question:

What's the difference between summary and analysis? What are some real-world examples?

My Response:

The difference between a summary and an analysis is that a summary only looks to restate what was already presented. A summary gives a brief synopsis of just the main points of a document without looking in-depth into how the main points were conveyed. On the other hand, an analysis looks in detail, into the rhetorical strategies used and evaluates how the author constructs meaning and accomplishes its purpose. A real world example of a summary would be the synopsis on the back of books in the library, while a real life example of an analysis would be when sport pundits analyze sport games after they are done. These pundits analyze and evaluate information such as what formations were used by the  managers and to what extent did they work to win the game.
